Throughout my experience through this team project, I feel as though I was able to develop a better understand of how to formulate a theoretical framework within evidence-based practice. Through our learning we began to develop knowledge, skills, and behaviors in place around appraising evidence found throughout various nursing topics. Specifically, my group chose the topic of deep breathing exercises and quality of life in patients with COPD. We used three research articles that presented and supported our research topic and how it they positively impact a patient with COPD’s quality of life. With our deep dive into these research articles, we as future nurse, discovered that these evidence-based researched areas of care should be carried forward in implementations of care for a patient. This specific type of therapy, pursed lip breathing, does not need specific equipment, time or place. It can be just another tool a patient uses to increase their quality of life. Giving a patient a sense of hope and independence that they can do these exercises, whether that be pursed lip breathing of harmonic playing, any time they need. Implementation of a physical action such as various exercises can only improve an individual’s life. Medications and doctor’s visits can be tiresome and a lot to deal with, so having positive alternatives only improves care.

Overall, my team did a great job of communicating, dividing up work, editing each other’s work, and trying to progress and make our paper flow as a team. I think as a team member I try to make sure we have open communication and ask for help or if someone needs help whenever possible. I think working in teams is very beneficial because each person brings various aspects to a project and knowing what you as a team member can help with and where can only strengthen us achieving in this class.
