NM 3 and 4

For modules 3 I personally feel as though I was given more of an overview of how nursing encompasses knowledge, critical thinking, and clinical judgment. Although we go to school and learn information it is important to then take that forward in our nursing career within a hands-on setting. Using all aspects to give the best patient-centered care. Nurses have the important job of not only caring for people but being that voice when a patient can’t advocate medically to doctors. Empowering the patient, promoting, and preventing all aspects of health are just some of the very important aspects to incorporate as a nurse.

Module 4 is breaking down those aspects of knowledge, critical thinking, and clinical judgment into the important areas of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, ADPIE, ABC and Safety and Risk Reduction. We have taken these areas and broken them down even further in our Adult Health I class. These are the bases of a good nurse and being able to provide great care using knowledge and critical thinking. Personally, I think that Maslow’s Hierarchy is one of the most important aspects because it allows you to assess the patient before even beginning any hands-on care. If a nurse can have a well-rounded concept of a person’s needs (by reading the room and person’s physical responses) before implementing anything, they have a great grasp around Maslow’s Hierarchy and can then provide full patient care.

Art and Nursing

Nursing is a multi-layered profession encompassing building relationships with patients, an understanding of unity within the healthcare team, and using evidence-based practices to strengthen your own profession, these being only a few layers within nursing. The photo I chose that speaks to me on “how nursing is an art” is a colorful sunrise. Right before the sun begins to rise there are multiple colors within the sky that are pushing out. Just like the layers of nursing that play off one another and show the overall unity need to progress as a nurse.

NM 1 and 2

Module 1

Within module 1 I learned different strategies to help overall preparation for nursing school, which includes completing assigned readings, taking good notes, better study habit, and how to prepare for a test, along with many others. I will most definitely take what I learned and carry it throughout my academic classes. Making sure I incorporate when and where to study, and good studying habits is a very important aspect to be successful. Having a quiet, well lite room and making sure you have all the content clear and laid out. As well using the ABC’s of study aids (acronyms, basics, cluster etc.) All of these aspects will help myself and other students prepare for tests and the NCLEX.

Module 2

Module 2 demonstrated the helix of success that is necessary for nursing and for the best patient outcome. Some of the areas that were focused on where evidence-based practice, client education and safety, as well as professionalism and leadership. These were just a few of the very informative topics. As nurses you must use clinical reasoning and knowledge to incorporate the correct care and have an understanding of the patient’s needs. Nurses have many responsibilities and Module 2 has given me the information to further my nursing education and have a better understanding of the overall necessary steps for success.
